Beat the Holiday Sales Blues With These Festive Marketing Ideas

If your business takes a downturn during the holidays, follow these great marketing tips to turn those holiday blues into holiday sales!

The holidays can be a tough time of year for some businesses.

Let’s face it, if you are not in a retail business tied to the holidays, odds are your business dips this time of year. It’s a natural phenomenon – consumers are preoccupied and busy so they tend to put off purchases and decisions that they don’t absolutely have to make, until the first of the year.

So what can you do to drum up some business so December isn’t a total bust? Well I always say, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em! How can you take advantage of the holidays and gift giving and buying?

One suggestion is to consider selling gift certificates. Just about any type of consumer business, whether you sell products or services, can offer gift certificates.

Promote your gift certificates to your current clients and customers as a way for them to share your products or services that they know and love with a friend or family member. (This can be a great way to facilitate referrals and generate new business, too!).

Gift certificates not appropriate for your business? How about offering an end-of-year or a seasonal special? Make sure your special expires on December 31. This could be a product or service you are discontinuing or closing out. Or it could be a special holiday discount on a regular product or service.

By giving your customers a great deal, or offer they can’t normally get, you give them a reason to purchase from you now vs. waiting until after the holidays. They will appreciate the special price considering their expenses are higher than normal in December. And you win, because you make a sale when you otherwise would not have. Your profit margin may be lower, but at least it is profit!

So be creative. Think about how you can turn your product or service into a unique gift idea. A way for someone to learn the benefits of having a fitness trainer or personal coach first hand, through a gift of a few sessions. Fresh flowers every month for 6 months. $50 toward the purchase of any product or service you offer. A free consultation.

Following are three more holiday marketing ideas you may want to consider:

(1) Offer to donate a percentage of all sales in December to your favorite charity and publicize it with a press release to the media.

(2) Do a promotion giving one lucky customer the chance to win their holiday purchase for free. Select one customer at the end of December and refund them for the full price of their purchase. This will get all buyers excited and will give them an incentive to buy now. Put a maximum value on the prize if you want to protect yourself from having to refund too large of a purchase.

(3) Or just find a way to help your customers see that now is the perfect time to buy, before your prices increase in the new year (Buy Now and Save!), or before you no longer offer a particular product or service. If you don’t want to discount, offer a free gift or value-added bonus with purchase.

Once you’ve decided to make a special holiday offer to your customers. What is the best way to make them aware of this offer?

How about through your regular e-zine or e-newsletter? Along with your regular content, include a line or two about this special promotion. Include a link to the page on your web site where customers can go to take advantage of your special offer.

Don’t publish an e-zine? That’s okay, send out an email notifying your customers of your special holiday offer. Use a compelling Subject Line to get them to open the email. If you have email addresses for both current customers and prospects you may want to send out two different emails.

You could use the email to your current customers to thank them for all of their business over the past year. Or suggest that since they like your products or services so much, they may want to share them with a friend or family member by purchasing a gift. Put together a special gift package to make their shopping easy.

Don’t have email address for your customers or prospects. Here’s six more ways to quickly get the word out about your holiday promotion or special offer.

(1) Put up a poster in your retail location.

(2) Promote your holiday special on your web site home page.

(3) Telephone your best customers to tell them about your end-of-year special, reserved for only your very best customers.

(4) Run a small ad where you usually advertise, but have the ad promote your holiday special.

(5) Include a note on all of your receipts and be sure to make all of your regular December customers aware as well. You may be able to increase the amount of their purchase or get them to return later in the month to make another purchase.

(6) Create a promotional flyer and hand it out in areas your customers and prospects frequent, or find another business you can partner with (a complimentary or non-competing product or service) who might be willing to make your promotional flyers available to their customers, if you do the same for them.

Carton Sealing Tape Makes Securing Your Packages a Pleasurable Task

Article Body:

Carton sealing tape is just one of the many kinds of that highly useful range of products, tapes. Made of paper or plastic like polypropylene, carton-sealing tapes are self-adhesive, and secure the cartons in which you ship your products.

They are typically two or three inches wide, and come in rolls of different lengths. The rolls are packed 24 or 36 or more per carton (which is then sealed with one of these same kinds of tapes!) The glue used for providing adhesion might differ depending on the strength of sealing required.

Different Kinds of Cartons and Sealing Tapes

There are lightweight cartons, heavyweight cartons and cartons falling between these two in the matter of weight. Then there are single wall cartons, multi-wall cartons and corrugated cartons. There are also over packed cartons that tend to bulge and under packed cartons that tend to fall in awkward shapes.

If all sealing tapes were produced to maximum specifications (of material and adhesive strength) to handle all the above carton situations, it would be overkill. It will push up the costs for simple packaging needs. The cost of the superior kinds of sealing tapes tends to be two to three times that of the simple varieties.

For lightweight single wall cartons packed normally, the comparatively inexpensive variety of carton sealing tape will be quite enough to secure it during short transits. On the other hand, a heavyweight multi-wall or corrugated box that is under packed will need the best kind of sealing tape to secure it for a longish trip.

Carton sealing tape suppliers thus supply different kinds of tapes in different price ranges. The tape material used could be strengthened with blends and weaves, and the glue could be faster sticking with very high bonding strengths. A normal sealing tape might have a tensile strength in the range of 20 pounds while the higher grades might have 35 pounds or more.

Carton Sealing Tape Pricing and Features

Carton sealing tapes are made with paper, polypropylene, PVC, UPVC and other materials, including blends. The glue can be acrylic, synthetic rubber adhesive and such. Widths are typically 2 inch or 3 inch. Each roll can be, say, 110 yards.

Tapes differ in their tolerance of temperature ranges, color, water resistance and resistance to splitting, peeling, cracking and drying.

They come packed with different numbers of rolls per carton. There might be 24, 36, 72, 144 and more rolls per pack. You are likely to get lower prices per roll if you order the higher roll cartons.

The carton sealing tape can be a clear transparent tape, or colored in specific colors. They can be overprinted with handling instructions or promotional messages.

Conclusion

Carton sealing tape is just one kind of the many kinds of special purpose tapes available for different applications. They come with different characteristics and in varying prices depending on such things are the strength of material used, and that of the glue. The tape requirements vary depending on such things as the package weight, type of carton material used and other factors.

Here it is again. The end of another year. Did this year go by in a flash? I know it did for me, just as it does every year. With 2006 just around the corner now is the time to sit down and write out our goals for next year. If we don’t, we will suddenly be at the end of the year again wondering what happened in the last twelve months and wondering why we are no closer to our dreams than we were when the year started. When we don’t set goals we see and experience the effects of what life brought to us rather than what we brought to our life on purpose.

We need to write our goals down on paper so we can refer to them often. They become a roadmap of the direction you are heading in. You can change them, tweak them, or refine them as often as you like. If they are in your head, you have to try to remember them as well as have the internal battle with your subconscious that keeps telling you not to worry about them anymore or that goals are too hard so you should just quit, and that can become difficult.

Setting goals is not that difficult. You remember the riddle, “how do you eat and elephant?” Well the answer is: “One bite at a time”. Obtaining the results you want in your life are very much the same way as eating an elephant. We certainly can’t expect to loose 20 percent or more of our weight in one month, just like we can’t expect to triple our income in one week. We must work through a process of steps and phases. Think about “what” it is that you want to accomplish or that you want to have in your life. Consider “why” you want it. Finally start to write down ideas of “how” you might reach or obtain it (also known as “action plans”). Goals and objectives aren’t the same thing, although many people think they are. Goals are where you want to end up. Objectives are the steps to get there.

Use the SMART process when setting goals. You will find this method is simple and easy to execute.

The S stands for Specific. To have a goal that is not specific means whatever you get or wherever you finish is quite alright with you. To set a goal to have more money is not specific. It does not say how much more money. Make it more specific by saying, “I want to have $100 dollars more income per week”. This is specific. You can measure the progress. You will be able to see if you are on track or not and what you might need to do to adjust.

M stands for Measurable. We just discussed measuring. If you can’t measure it, how will you know if you are accomplishing it? You won’t. You will never get the satisfaction of knowing that you have accomplished your goal if you can’t measure it. Keep that in mind when setting goals. Think about how or what you will use to measure it. Many people trying to loose weight no longer use a scale. They use a piece of clothing they would like to fit into. It is their reference point and measuring tool. Once they are able to fit into it, they know they have accomplished their goal of loosing weight. When a plane takes off for Hawaii, the pilot doesn’t just set the course and drink coffee for the duration of the flight. The pilot is constantly reading where the plane is and where it needs to be. The plane is always drifting off course, a little to the left or to the right. The pilot is always making corrections until the final destination is reached. If they were not paying attention and constantly checking, or measuring, who knows where the plane might end up?

A stands for Achievable. Is the goal you are setting achievable? Can you really become a millionaire in 3 months? Are you setting yourself up for failure? Probably. You want to set your goals to be “just out of reach of your fingertips”. This way, with perseverance, it can be achieved. Too far, and failure is guaranteed. Go back to eating the elephant example. To have a goal to become a millionaire is a good goal to have, but that may be out there on your five year plan. A gentleman once told me that I could become a millionaire just as soon as I figured out how to make my first ten dollars. He was right. Small steps. Think about what steps you need to take now in order to become a millionaire in five years if that is your goal. Then make one of those steps your achievable goal to work on this year. This year’s goal might be to start your own business by first deciding which business to be in, obtaining your business license, getting a resale number from the board of equalization, all by Dec. 31st, 2006. That is certainly an achievable goal.

R stands for Relevant or Realistic. Can it be done? Can you do it? Will this goal push you to learn something that you don’t already know? Will it begin to force you to think outside the box if you do not currently do that? Start to plan on ways that you will make the goal happen. Again, not too easy as it will not be worth your effort, and not too hard as you will likely give up too easily. The goal should also help move you towards achieving your bigger picture?

If your goal is to build your business by adding at least 5000 customers, can that be done? Is that goal realistic? Do you know how to do that? What is your plan of attack in order to achieve this goal? Most people actually set themselves up for failure in this step of the process and they are not even aware of it. They set a goal, it is measurable, it is achievable, but it is not realistic or relevant and consequently they fail and become disappointed. You have to be able to believe in what it is you are striving for and know that you can do it. You have to be able to feel it: taste it: breathe it: live it, and visualize it. If you don’t believe you can do it, your goal will die because there is nothing to fuel it. This is also where they say that a person’s character is measured: by their ability to continue to work the plan or idea long after the emotion they had when setting it is gone.

T stands for Timely. What is the timeframe you are going to give yourself in order to accomplish these goals? Again, this needs to be specific. Is it one month, 6 months, 1 year? You need to have goals that have a time frame on them (that also have to be realistic). This will help to keep you on track and give a sense of urgency. No timeframe and you can just tell yourself you will start whenever. You need a very clear target to shoot at.

Finally, start working your goals and adjust them where you need to. Measure them often to make sure you are on track.

When 2006 is over, you will be proud of your accomplishments and knowing that YOU created your life in 2006 and that life didn’t just happen to you.

If you can’t stand writing, you’re in good company. Most of us feel the same. I once asked a high school English teacher how many of her 300 students liked to write. “Oh, about 9 of them,” she said.

Everyone from Mark Twain to Bart Simpson has faced a blank sheet of paper for hours with no idea of what to put on it. Well let me give you a few ideas from my office of professional writers. In the world of non-fiction writing, being a professional doesn’t necessarily mean being a great writer. It does mean you have to be able to conjure up great copy every single day, even when you don’t feel well or aren’t in the mood.

The first step is just to get something on paper–anything! And I do mean anything. Just start writing down whatever comes to mind. If you can’t think of anything, write “I’m sitting here and I can’t think of anything to write.”

Yes, that sounds pretty stupid. But it’s exactly the technique a lot of top writers use to get the creative juices flowing. Next you’ll find yourself typing “I need to write a sales letter to promote my new software. It’s software to help people get organized. Most people have lots of information, but they can’t remember where they put it. This software has people organize their information in a system that makes it super easy to find, in just seconds.”

Wow! You’re writing, you’re telling your story, and best of all, you’re not worrying about being bad because you know you can go back later and change it all.

One top writer copies and pastes favorite lines from other sources (like the client’s web site.) Then she rewrites those sections in her own words so that they are completely original. That’s enough to get her going. Next she fills in additional fresh copy between the blurbs she has already completed. Even on days when she would rather be anywhere but behind a computer, she cranks out first rate copy in record time.

Another method is to just start talking. Talk into one of those little tape recorders you get at Radio Shack. Pretend you’re telling your best friend, your mother, or Paris Hilton all about your big idea. Go into all the details. Talk it all out. Later, go back, listen, and take notes. Your notes will be the start of your email message.

Don’t type very well? 60 percent of North Americans can’t type. Hunting keys often makes writing frustrating if not impossible. Follow in the tradition of a great many very famous writers. Pick up a cheap ballpoint pen and write down your ideas with the good old handwriting you learned in second grade. Then have someone type it up.

The key is to just get something, anything, on your computer screen or on paper. Once you have that, start to edit. The copy will take on a life of its own and the writing will come easier. Or, simply hand your first attempts to a professional writer. Most can churn your notes into polished copy faster and cheaper than they can write entirely new copy.

Probably a third of all miseries that trouble humankind are emotional. Psychiatrists mostly discover that their patients are emotionally troubled and mentally feeble. Troubled people have their minds weakened or overwhelmed by strong emotions.

For instance, a paranoid may imagine that people don’t like him. A diagnosis may show that the problem could be a very low self-esteem. “I don’t think I’m a person worthy of anything,” he may insist. Further diagnosis may show that the patient was abused or maltreated as a child. The trauma had impressed a negative emotion that stayed in him, grew, and finally took over his mindset and perceptions.

Let’s take a simpler and more common example. A spirited talk about their child’s birthday party somehow ended up on a sour note. Mary couldn’t figure out why John suddenly became argumentative about what cake to buy. Later on, John admitted that cakes weren’t really that important to him. He told her that any cake would do as long as their child liked it. It’s just that he’s bothered by how his boss has been treating him in the office. His boss has been criticizing everything he decides on. John couldn’t take being opposed anymore, even with a simple decision on what cake to buy.

Everyday, many people are held prisoners by their emotions. They let emotions rule their lives and decide how everything would turn out. They behave as if they have no choice but to yield to their emotions. They let emotions use them.

If you choose to, you can use emotions to your advantage. Instead of letting them take over your life and ruin it too, you can use your emotions to build you up.

The truth is that emotions have no power to control anything or anyone. The only reason they seem to be so overwhelming is that they are usually given power to be so. Emotions are similar to power beggars. They wait to be given power. By themselves, they can do nothing. Once they are given importance, they grab that opportunity and take over. Remember, emotions can grow in power overnight.

The good news is that you can order your emotions to propriety. With the right training, you can enforce a process that submits the emotions to a practical will. A practical will is that which is commanded by a strong and practical mind. If a personality has this operation, it will be a progressively changing personality everyday. When a practical mind decides on what behavior to manifest and how to manifest it, a healthy personality is the result. A healthy personality is one that makes use of its emotions, rather than letting emotions use it.

Few have not heard of Ji-Sung Park, the Korean superstar dubbed the “Shaggy Haired-One” of UK Premiership team Manchester United. Park rose to international stardom in 2002, scoring goals against England and France during international friendlies in May, preceding the World Cup of 2002. During the World Cup, he scored the winning goal in South Korea’s match against Portugal . His first professional contract was at J-League’s Kyoto Purple Sanga in 2000, and he was the first Korean footballer ever to go straight to the J-League without going through the K-League. He was arguably the most influential player of the team by 2002 and following his stellar performance World Cup that year, it was evident that the J-League was too small a stage for Park.

His international career began as a defensive midfielder at age 18. When Guus Hiddink became the head coach of South Korea, Park’s position was changed to winger. Since then, Park is considered to be versatile player who can play in a range of positions, from wing-back to central midfield. After the World Cup, Park was recruited to PSV Eindhoven, to play under his mentor and former national team coach Hiddink. Unlike his compatriot Young-Pyo Lee, who rapidly became a fixture in PSV Eindhoven’s starting lineup, Park struggled and a few poor performances which unfortunately saw him being boo-ed by some of the PSV fans.

By the end of 2003-2004 season, Park had adapted to The Netherlands, he quickly proved his worth to the team forming the backbone of PSV Eindhoven’s midfield play with fellow Korean Young-Pyo Lee and Dutchmen Mark van Bommel and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. Park’s energetic movement created havoc against all opponents at all areas of the field, both offensively and defensively. His PSV career highlight came he scored the first goal against AC Milan at the Champions League semi-finals.

Park was scouted by Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United by the end of the 2005 season who believed that Park’s energetic style of play and outstanding fitness could be the foundation his flagging Manchester United side needed. Also, with the aging of Ryan Giggs and the relatively inexperienced Cristiano Ronaldo on the right wing, Park was sought after, in order to keep the Manchester United midfield fresh but also provide experience to a mostly young team. In July 2005, Ji-Sung Park signed a four-year contract with Manchester United for four million pounds.

As anticipated, Park impressed fans during Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the Far East, as well as in the first game of the season against Everton with his tireless, energetic roaming of the pitch and pressuring of opponents, such that Ferguson picked him over Ryan Giggs and the popular Cristiano Ronaldo against Aston Villa on 20th August the following week. His lack of composure in front of goal is considered his main weakness as he has, on many occassions, come close to scoring but he has opted to pass the ball to his other team-mates. Park has been renowned for his good attitude and strong work ethic which have helped him excel for both club and country. His fitness is known to rival that of a marathon runner, and his former teammates at PSV Eindhoven have jokingly suggested that Park plays with an oxygen tank strapped to his back.

Ji-Sung Park’s unofficial website is soon hosting a charity contest where fans can win a genuine Man United shirt, hand-signed by Park, worth hundreds of pounds. Every person who enters- needs to donate 2 pounds & predict how many goals in total Park will have scored for Man United in all competitions by the end of the season. All money raised is being given to a local South Korean charity- a football academy for deprived youngsters, in conjunction with the famous South Korean team: Suwon Bluewings, the famous football club, from where Park is from and was born. Article Body:

Branding is the process of creating distinctive and durable perceptions in the minds of consumers. A brand is a persistent, unique business identity intertwined with associations of personality, quality, origin, liking and more. Here’s why the effort to brand your company or yourself pays off.

1. Memorability. A brand serves as a convenient container for a reputation and good will. It’s hard for customers to go back to “that whatsitsname store” or to refer business to “the plumber from the Yellow Pages.” In addition to an effective company name, it helps when people have material reminders reinforcing the identity of companies they will want to do repeat business with: refrigerator magnets, tote bags, datebooks, coasters, key rings, first aid kits, etc.

Memorability can come from using and sticking with an unusual color combination (FedEx’s purple and orange), distinctive behavior (the gas station whose attendants literally run to clean your windshield), or with an individual, even a style of clothing (Author Tom Wolfe’s white suits). Develop your own identifiers and nail them to your company name in the minds of your public.

2. Loyalty. When people have a positive experience with a memorable brand, they’re more likely to buy that product or service again than competing brands. People who closely bond with a brand identity are not only more likely to repurchase what they bought, but also to buy related items of the same brand, to recommend the brand to others and to resist the lure of a competitor’s price cut. The brand identity helps to create and to anchor such loyalty.

Consider the legions of car owners who travel up to 2,000 miles at their own expense to attend a Saturn celebration at the company’s plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee. That’s loyalty. And supposedly, more people have the motorcycle brand “Harley-Davidson” tattooed on their body than any other brand name. That’s out-of-this-world loyalty.

3. Familiarity. Branding has a big effect on non-customers too. Psychologists have shown that familiarity induces liking. Consequently, people who have never done business with you but have encountered your company identity sufficient times may become willing to recommend you even when they have no personal knowledge of your products or services. Seeing your ads on local buses, having your pen on their desk, reading about you in the Hometown News, they spread the word for you when a friend or colleague asks if they know a ____ and that’s what you do.

4. Premium image, premium price. Branding can lift what you sell out of the realm of a commodity, so that instead of dealing with price-shoppers you have buyers eager to pay more for your goods than for those of competitors. Think of some people’s willingness to buy the currently “in” brand of bottled water, versus toting along an unlabeled bottle of the same stuff filled from the office water cooler.

The distinctive value inherent in a brand can even lead people to dismiss evidence they would normally use to make buying decisions. I once saw one middle-aged Cambridge, Massachusetts, intellectual argue to several colleagues that Dunkin’ Donuts’ coffee tastes better than Starbucks’. So contradictory was this claim to the two companies’ reputations for this demographic group that the colleagues refused to put the matter to a taste test.

5. Extensions. With a well-established brand, you can spread the respect you’ve earned to a related new product, service or location and more easily win acceptance of the newcomer. For instance, when a winery with a good reputation starts up regional winery tours, then adds foreign ones, each business introduction benefits from the positive perceptions already in place.

6. Greater company equity. Making your company into a brand usually means that you can get more money for the company when you decide to sell it. A Coca-Cola executive once said that if all the company’s facilities and inventory vanished all around the world, he could walk into any bank and take out a loan based only on the right to the Coca-Cola name and formula.

7. Lower marketing expenses. Although you must invest money to create a brand, once it’s created you can maintain it without having to tell the whole story about the brand every time you market it. For instance, a jingle people in your area have heard a zillion times continues to promote the company when it’s played without any words.

8. For consumers, less risk. When someone feels under pressure to make a wise decision, he or she tends to choose the brand-name supplier over the no-name one. As the saying goes, “You’ll never be fired for buying IBM.” By building a brand, you fatten your bottom line.

Gatekeeping, Your Brains Ultimate Secretary

Picture a secretary or assistant in your brain. They are the gatekeepers of information. The information they stop is anything that your subconscious self does not accept as true. We take on beliefs as we are growing up that may not align with our beliefs today, which can stop you from succeeding in life.

Picture a secretary or assistant in your brain. This assistant is going to decide what information to allow through to your conscious brain. They are the gatekeepers of information. Their job is important, as an overwhelming amount of information is thrown at you daily and you’d go crazy if it all came to you on a conscious level.

Part of the information they don’t allow past the gate is anything that your brain or unconscious self does not want to accept as true. You see, we take on beliefs as we are growing up. These beliefs’ can come from our parents, teachers, friends and the society where we were raised. And they may not align with our beliefs today.

This can be compounded when you are trying to work with co-workers or clients. You see the person you are trying to give a message to also has their own gate keeping system, with their own set of beliefs.

For example, you may believe that the road to success is easy with the right tools. However, the subconscious is playing a tape from childhood that is saying, “Yeah right, you know that it’s a struggle and most people don’t make it.”

The result is that your gatekeeper will keep back success opportunities from you. It believes that it is doing you a favour. It doesn’t want you to prove yourself wrong or create conflict in your mind and risk stress and anxiety that may come from conflicting beliefs. So the results are, that you will not see what is right in front of you.

Have you ever been looking for something and said to yourself. “Why can’t I ever find what I am looking for?” and then someone comes up and shows you that it is right in front of you. You stand there and can’t believe that you didn’t see it. This happens all the time.

I also teach that the brains RAS (Reticular Activating System) looks at all the information and says, “Is this a danger or important?”, and if no it filters it away. This shows just how little of the information you receive.

This is one of reasons that it is so important to look at your belief systems. Many of them may be blocking you from the things that you want in life. There are ways to find out and ways to remove beliefs that don’t serve you.

First, look around at your life. Is it the one you want? Are there things lacking and missing? If not then the odds are that you have conflicting beliefs.
I have read many articles about people who every time they received money, something came up and they lost it again.

In looking into their childhood, they found that money meant pain, hurt, or being sinful so they got rid of it in a hurry. Once they removed the old beliefs, they were able to achieve, business, personal and financial success.

One way to start is to start journaling and ask your self. Just what do I believe? And for each answer ask, “Does this serve me?” If the answer is no, then you need to replace that belief. For some people the changes come fast. For others that have several deeply ingrained beliefs, they may need help from professionals that are trained in replacing old beliefs.

I have personally found that those with an understanding of Quantum Physics, have helped countless people change their lives. As well, there are many counselors and coaches that can help.

In any case, with help you can move forward in life and place what you desire on your RAS’s important list. Then watch the opportunities start to appear.

The days are longer; the sun shines brighter. Throw open the windows and inhale in the sweet smell of fresh cut grass and the lilacs blooming outside! The world is coming back to life, and you’ve got more energy and enthusiasm. It’s time to shake off the darkness of winter with a good round of Spring Cleaning!

First on the list is bringing more light into your home. Take down your curtains and window shades and give them a good cleaning. Bring Venetian blinds outside and hose them down. Iron curtains with starch for a crisp clean look, but don’t hang them up again until you’ve washed the windows — inside and out! You can clean your windows in one day with a bucket of water and ammonia, a squeegee and a stack of newspapers. Clean windows are the number one feature of a bright, welcoming home. Replace dark insulated draperies with sheer curtains or perhaps just a window topper to allow the sunlight to illuminate the room.

Now that you can see more clearly, look around. Is your house filled with clutter? Have stacks of newspapers and magazines, scattered toys, piles of papers and various odds and ends taken over your counters, tabletops, chairs, and the floor? Throw out everything you don’t need — and chances are most of it can go out with the trash. Get some good-looking storage containers or bookcases/shelving units to hold the stuff you do need.

What shape are the walls in? Think about painting the walls after cleaning them with a lemon-scented degreaser. Pastel shades brighten up a room. Experiment, you might be surprised to find that light colors really brighten your mood. Or simply give your walls a good cleaning and stencil on a border, or hang a favorite print or dried flower arrangement. Think about using a hallway as a gallery for framed family photos.

Wow! Now that the walls are clean, you can see that the baseboards, doors and moldings are quite dirty. Clean the woodwork with a bucket of water and a bit of Murphy’s Oil soap to add a real sparkle to your rooms. Consider renting a buffing machine to put a shine on your wood floors. Get the carpets cleaned or buy some bright scatter rugs to add a touch of color.

If you’ve moved the furniture to get your cleaning done, think about putting it back differently. Rearranging your furniture, eliminating or adding one of two pieces, can give your room a whole new feel.

This is also a good time to go through your closets and drawers and get rid of any clothes you haven’t worn in the last three years. There’s nothing more satisfying than hauling some big garbage bags filled with clothes you no longer need or want to Goodwill or the Salvation Army — and you get a tax break! More expensive clothes in good shape can be brought to a consignment shop. How about putting a shelving unit into your closet to utilize the space to maximum effect?

Now that the heavy housework is done, have some fun. Pick up some new linens for your beds, wash them in detergent meant for baby clothes, and hang them outside to dry. You’ll love the clean sweet smell. New guest towels and fancy soaps can add pizzazz to bathrooms. Get a head start on your vegetable garden — and bring new life to your kitchen — by starting your tomatoes and peppers in bright ceramic pots on a windowsill or a sunny counter top. And a new tablecloth (or a new dining set!) will make it easier to eat the right foods so you fit into the swimsuit you’ll be wearing all too soon!

Candles with the scent of spring, like peach or honeysuckle, and fresh flowers — even a single daffodil, crocus, lily or tulip in a bud vase — in every room of the house will complete the resurrection of your home — from winter blahs to the new birth of Spring!

Quick! Have your mother-in-law over before the house reverts to its old ways!

How to manage your password smartly

Summary:

Web users have gotten used to signing up to dozens of websites to enjoy free services. However, the dozens of online identities are increasingly getting out of hand. Learn how to use password manager to manage your multiple online identities.

Typically you don’t wanna have more than two or three passwords memorized inside your head.

But most of the time that’s not a choice. Some sites force you to have alphanumeric passwords, while your banks and credit card access force you to have only numeric passwords.

When it comes time for you to change your password, life start to get really complicated. Sometimes it’s the computer system force you to have a new password, sometimes you get phished, sometimes a girlfriend who know your password just broke up with you.

If you are like any friend I know, changing password means having a new kid. Pretty soon you’re gonna forget which kid is where, which password is for which login.

That’s why password manager is so important to me. There are plenty of great password manager out there. I personally have been using Oubliette for some time (though it’s been discontinued). But I know not a lot of people are that diligent with one.

The truth is most people are not that security-conscious. But the way the web has evolved, password manager is no longer about security anymore. It’s about freeing up your mind from the unnecessary trash like memorizing seven set of passwords. That’s what GTD is all about, take your mind off the mundane stuffs.

As far as password manager goes, there are two way around it. First is the most common option: desktop software solution. Like Oubliette, they typically offer strong encryption, storing your login names, passwords, URLs, emails, categories, and additional notes for each account. For the most secure option, this is the best way to go.

However, I find it increasingly inconvenient that I have to make sure I have the most updated copy of the password file on my thumb drive. If you are like me and use different PCs in multiple locations, you better make sure you have your password file synchronized or you’d regret it just when you need it.

But the worst is when you are using a PC as a guest, and your password manager is not installed there, which is most likely the case.

So I resort to building a web-based password manager, onelurv. Two major reasons I can’t do without it.

First is obvious, I have access to it anywhere, no installation needed.

Secondly, I can login to my sites with just one click. Truth is, I’m getting sick and tired of copy and pasting login/password back and forth between my browser and password manager. So I built onelurv to store my login/password and log me in with one click, no more sign in form.

Hence, web-based password manager would be viable if you are less security-demanding and more convenience-oriented.
